Change was in the air in the last few days, or so it seems. All of a sudden, the days are getting longer, the air is warmer and I can feel the winter gloom lifting.
Both Elka and I seperately decided it was time to for a style update.
Elka's came first - she spotted a hairdresser whilst we were at the shops and she demanded a haircut. A short haircut. Now she has the most stunning long hair - tresses that people never fail to comment on, so thick and so long it reaches right down her back. Admittedly it is a nightmare to care for and she hates having to stay still while I tend to the knots and food caught in it and try to tame it into something presentable. I hesitated, does a three year old have the say over what her hairtyle should be? As her mother, I loathed the idea of cutting of her gorgeous hair, but was it my decision? She picks her clothes, her shoes and how her hair is worn every day anyway...
I decided that it was her call and we headed into the salon. Even the hairdresser was sad to have to cut such lovely hair. But Elka was adament and sat perfectly still for the 15 minutes it took. She loves it and hasn't complained once since. I must admit, after her swimming lesson today, there was no snagged long hair to brush out and she looks tidy and groomed.

Not to be left out, I decided for a change today when I got a few hours of pampering. My wonderful hairdresser who has spent the last few visits patiently lightening my hair from chocolate brown to honey brown, managed not to look put out when I said I wanted to do an about face and make my hair red. And did a wonderful job. Alas the picture doesn't do the cut or colour justice but you get the jist. I love a new hair colour, all your clothes look different and you embrace different colours!

During - so much hair!

And a very happy camper with her new "lob" (long bob)

About Me
- Amy
- I am 30 years old, am a microbiologist with a PhD and love looking after my little farm. I compete in dressage and showjumping with my horses. I have a passion for shopping and a weakness for pretty clothes, shoes and handbags. My husband and I have a gorgeous toddler called Elka and a little bub named Bronte. I am a mother who works and has a career - just don't call me a "working mother". I don't do inside hobbies and craft and have only successfully sewn two things in my life that weren't ripped horserugs. The scientist in me makes me a little cynical and I am more likely to tell you about my life and events then give you a pretty polaroid style picture and an inspiring quote. Not for everyone but I have a bad memory and blogging is my way of recording life :)

I am always surprised how determined our daughters can be at such a young age. The only thing Raya asks for at the hairdresser is to have purple hair. Elka looks so much older with her short hair!
Gorgeous! Love both of your cuts.
The thing that excited me most about your post was the part where you said she 'sat patiently for 15 minutes while having it cut'. My son screams when we even walk past a hairdresser- you've just given me a little beam of hope!
What fun. You look great. I think it's fabulous that you're letting Elka feel as if you respect her decisions and have a little control over her life. It must feel great to her to know that you're listening to what she's saying to you.
Love love loving you new hair do xxx
Both of you look great and both suit short hair as well as long - very lucky girls!!
I too am jealous that Elka sat still for her hair cut. Liam screams and refused flat out to get his cut last time, now he's desperately in need of one and I'm looking for ways to get him to sit still - portable DVD player is my current thought! Last time we tried giving him the spray bottle and getting him to squirt Daddy, but then he moves around too much, so thats no good.
