Yep second shocking cold I have had in a month - got to love the supressed immunre response you get during pregnancy! So time for a whinge :) I am so miserable - sore, aching, sniffing, sore throat, headaches.. and I cant take anything! Whats worse is my tummy is so achy and sore lately - guess its all the stretching etc
Still... life is seriously good and a cold isnt going to change that! My parents and brother and girlfriend are visiting tomorrow for my birthday dinner (a week early but hey still awesome fun!) and my gorgeous hubby is making my favourite cupcakes (YUM!).. not long till we head to Canberra to see all our friends, cant wait!! And hubby and I managed to score the same Qantas flights so we will be spending Valentines Day evening eating plane food next to each other - how romantic! but hey at least we are together and not off on seperate work trips as usual - and then... our babymoon/anniversary holiday :)
Ooh I will post some pics of the gorgeous 5 star apartment we are staying - has its own private spa pool on the balcony and views over Fraser island - cant wait to relax and eat yummy food etc - bring it on! We will be spending my birthday there which will be nice :)

Our gorgeous chickens are our pseudo-dogs - they live in the backyard and they sleep on our back doormat. They are so lovely and tame and once you have owned a chook you will understand how sweet they are!
Anyways during the middle of the day, they love to line up along our back door and preen and peer inside to keep an eye on us. I had to take a photo of them! :)

Yes it was a busy weekend but it was fantastic and relaxing also :)
Most importantly Spech finally got his operation on his teeth - the dentist and the vet came out friday morning and got stuck into his hooks and ramps. After having to take three quarters of his molars off - the poor boy should be able to eat and live without discomfort and headaches. He was so sweet all doped up on the anaesthetic - so sooky! I managed to make a big fuss by blacking out twice while all this was happening. No I wasnt freaked out about the procedure etc - just some good old pregnancy blood pressure/hot day issues :) I spent that day feeling really crappy and woosy - blah!
I painted the wood chest of drawers for the nursery white and it looks fantastic in the nursery theme.
Anyways on Saturday, hubby and I went up Mt Coo-tha and had a lovely lunch at the lookout cafe there. It has the most devine views of Brisbane and the city and bay. The rain was pouring in and it was so cosy :). then we had the smart idea of going bushwalking in the heavy rain with one umbrella, no jackets and thongs! It was heaps of fun though and wading through the causeways and running water pouring down the walks was good for a laugh - best of all the waterfalls were so pretty! then we finished by hitting up the best nursery sale ever and got so many gorgeous palms and plants for our rainforest garden. The garden is looking fantastic now!
Sunday was all about tidying the house and preparing for our BBQ.. that was lovely - so good to see friends and havea nice relaxing hang out.. mmm the food wasnt bad either ;)
Now back to a long week of work :)
At least next week we have our trip to Canberra (work trip but hubby has one at the same time so we are catching up wtih friends and enjoying the nice hotel room that my work has paid for me - yay!) and then we go on our babymoon/anniversary trip and its my bday - all good things!! :)

Yep that is right - I am 20 weeks and halfway through my pregnancy! Things are going well - bub is healthy and at my obs appointment had the most gorgeous strong heartbeat :)
I am feeling a lot less tired and can actually stay up past 9pm!! But I do wear myself out really easily trying to do work around the farm! My most noticeable symptom at the moment is major tightness and pulling across the tummy - I feel like I am going to explode! Guess its just a growth spurt?
Weight now - 62kg! so a 4kg gain!
Foods - hehe still Milo and now red delicious apples
And here is my pic :)

Wow what a long weekend!! Mum and Dad arrived on Thurs afternoon with a van full of goodies for us :) including the surprise ride-on mower for Jase!! I managed to keep my mouth shut so it was a definite surprise for him - so cool!!
We had a great time pram shopping on friday - my god my lovely mum marched on in there and bought up a storm!! we got the Phil and Ted Sport in green and she also bought us the bassinet addition and the gorgeous lambswool attachment!! So nice! and... she bought me the Sofia cot set which I am IN LOVE with!!
We had a lovely lunch out and then headed to my obs appointment. All is well and best of all my parents got to hear the heartbeat which was so sweet. Then we finished in Spotlight buying material to cover the vintage bassinet we are doing up and curtain material for the nursery window.
So of course much sewing followed! And... more shopping!! We ended up buying a lovely new cot as the old cot was proving to be difficult with its unsual sizing etc and we headed to IKEA and got the cutest chandelier and some cot linen...
So to cut a long story short - Mum whipped up some gorgeous curtains and did up the bassinet with the cutest skirt and ruffles. dad and Jase replaced the nursery light.. I made up the cot with the gorgeous linen and put away all the cute clothes mum had bought (this baby may send her broke!) and then today I painted the nursery in a soft lilac. End of story - it looks just beautiful - vintage, girly and very princessy!! I feel as spolit as clearly this little girl is going to be. I just cant believe how lucky I am to have such an amazing husband and such generous loving parents!
So.. photos are to come I promise! I cant wait to show it off!! Of course more is to be done - next on my list is painting the set of drawers in there in white but overall I am feeling so settled and happy that my nursery is so nearly there!
Now back to work for three days only (yay!) Jase and Ben have their V8 supercar drives on Saturday which will be fun and perfect for testing out the new video camera we got for xmas!!
Pregnancy front - tiring easily, hungry all the time and lots of lower tummy pulls and aches... lots of kicks from bub too!
will do a belly shot soon too!!
20 weeks - officially half way!!!

Have been quite the grump the last couple of days. Am also getting quite anxious to get into the decorating of the nursery.. am planning some solid progress this weekend - put up new light, start painting, start restoring the cot and bassinet. Having a 4 day weekend (yay!) and my parents are coming to visit - we are going pram shopping, cant wait!!
Am only at work 3 days next week too as am having next friday off as Spech is finally having his operation on his teeth! yay!! poor boy - the vet is knocking him out and the dentist has to use power tools in his mouth - ouch!
Preggo symptoms - grumpy, tight tummy, ligament stretching, nerve pain in back, nesting ;)
Foods - apples, tomato-ey pastas and risottos
Weight - 61kg

Well I guess the title says it all! Our scan was fantastic - it took over an hour as bub was not keen to get out from burying its head in my placenta! I had to go for a walk and pee and then lie on my side to get the little horror to show her head :)
Everything measured well and bub looks healthy and normal - what a relief!! And most excitingly the sonographer was pretty darn confident that we are having a lovely little princess :)
We wandered out so happy calling the grandparents to let them know! We had a lovely lunch in the city and headed to Myer to buy a girl outfit to celebrate :)
this is the cute outfit :)

hehe I also bought some gorgeous tops for myself ;) I am loving this bump - it makes tops look so cute!!
Now for a nice relaxing weekend with my lovely hubby - he is taking me out to "our" romantic restaurant in Paddington for dinner tomorrow night to celebrate my promotion - cant wait to get all dressed up and eat yummy food :) and other than that off to Logan Village Riding Club Sign up day on Sunday to pick up my riding trophies from last year and to join up as a non-riding member for this year :)
NOw to decorate the nursery - will have to start researching ideas...

We have had our two thoroughbreds for nearly one year. They are both ex-racehorses and are also both rescue horses who were starved and neglected. Spech was lucky to have a nice owner before us but he was lacking a lot of muscle and his feet still needed a lot of work. Sam came to us just after he had been rescued from the knackers - he was a skeleton with no muscle and a dull eye. We nursed them through a tough year of drought with feed shortages and then through equine influenza. They are still on rest from EI but are looking well -hence the before and after.

Yep that is right - even though I am pretty sure I first felt bub at 13 weeks, I didnt really feel much until the last 2 weeks - where I felt lots of random bubbly kind of feelings. but these have now developed into definite inside out kicks. They are quite distracting and they occur when I sit down at my desk at work or am driving :) Apparently walking rocks the bub to sleep (cute!) and when you stop they wake up and start kicking (!)
We went shopping (again!) last night and got the cutest baby bouncer. Hubby put it together - it has an aquarium with little fish in water and bubbles blow and make them move and it plays music and beach sounds etc - very cute and funny - havent baby things changed!!
We get our new mattress tomorrow morning - they are delivering at 6am!! I hate being semi rural as we are always first delivery of the day so that they can work their way back into the city.. at least we can fall onto it and have a lazy morning!
Bring on the comfiness :) mmm decent sleep would be nice

OK how slack am I!! I am going to use the tiredness and sickness of the first trimester as the excuse of course! I got hit with major nausea - not much vomiting but nearly constant nausea. it got worse if I didnt eat and then even worse about 10 minutes after I did eat - uurrggh! And of course I am yet another of those women who despair over it being called "morning sickness" - yeah I wish it only occurred in the morning! I think everyone at work thought I was a total misery guts as they didnt know I was UTD and only saw me looking pretty miserable for 3 months!
But... all is well that ends well :) our 12 week scan went well - we got great statistics for having a healthy baby - apparently I have the same chances as a 16 year old in having a healthy bub (hehehe look out Jamie-Lynn!) which is not bad for a 26/27 year old! THe scan was AMAZING - seeing a real live baby that looks perfect and that is kicking and flipping around - wow! Hubby and I both think that it looks a boy :) but who can tell! So I then interviewed for and got my promotion - yay!! what a relief! Hurrah for lots more extra $$$$$ - very welcome! and being permanent is exactly what I needed :) So of course then I was able to come clean and tell everyone at work/email all friends - it was great to own up and stop wearing loose clothes!
So that brings us up to xmas - it was a busy December! We had some very well deserved holidays - which involved way too much travelling and shopping but were great fun :)
I got totally spoilt by mum and hubby for xmas and felt very lucky to have such nice gifts - my fav's being lots of cute cute jarmies, a new guess watch and... the Oroton signature nappy bag!!! I love it!! of course it cost more than I was planniong on spending on the pram! but as a gift is was very appreciated!! We also got a Sony video camera - once hubby learns not to film me with it, it will be a welcome addition! Of course its for filming the bub but I cant help but think how handy it will be for filming the horse during dressage tests ;)
Now.. back at work and trying to get my head around the concept of not being there for the whole year - so hard when there is so much going on, my grant.., work trips, new staff to train... arrgghh!
We have started baby shopping :) but I will fill all that in another day. We are holdiing off decorating the nursery until we find out the sex - which is next Friday!!! Cant wait - of course I am totally nervous about possible finding a morphological defect but at the same time its going to be so cool to see bub again.
I have a cute little baby tummy now that sticks out of clothes. I cant do anything up anymore and have ordered some funky maternity jeans :) I am feeling so much better than the first trimester and have even started exercising again - yay! But I am not allowed to horseride - banned by both my obs and hubby :( (and also the horses are on rest after EI). Its so hard to accept that Spech will have to be retired from competition for this whole year :( Although there is a little part of me that holds hope taht after bub comes out I might squeeze a few in at the end of the year (wishful thinking I am sure!)
OK foods of the moment: milo (my lifeblood! I need atleast one a day), white nectarines, mangoes, salads... hmm and anything else as I am starving hungry all the time..
Weight: starting: 57.5, current: 59
Noticeable symptoms of the moment: backache if I do too much round the farm, crap sleep cause I cant sleep on my tummy (body pillow = lifesaver!), some lower pelvic pain and pulling, blacking out when standing up..

About Me
- Amy
- I am 30 years old, am a microbiologist with a PhD and love looking after my little farm. I compete in dressage and showjumping with my horses. I have a passion for shopping and a weakness for pretty clothes, shoes and handbags. My husband and I have a gorgeous toddler called Elka and a little bub named Bronte. I am a mother who works and has a career - just don't call me a "working mother". I don't do inside hobbies and craft and have only successfully sewn two things in my life that weren't ripped horserugs. The scientist in me makes me a little cynical and I am more likely to tell you about my life and events then give you a pretty polaroid style picture and an inspiring quote. Not for everyone but I have a bad memory and blogging is my way of recording life :)
