Have had a sad couple of days :(

I have been minding my mum's chickens whilst she is in NZ. They are gorgeous big black chickies that mum has raised from little chicks. They are very sweet and gentle and unfortunately my bossy hens pick on them a little.

However the other morning I went out to let them out and found they had let themselves out and there were black feathers all under the fence. Well my heart dropped :( Some investigating revealed that sadly a fox had slipped in under the yard fence and grabbed one of mums gentle chickens who having let herself out of the shed pre-dawn was vunerable to attack. So I cancelled my melbourne cup plans and spent the day sadly refencing the yard and reinforcing the chicken shed to keep the rest of the chickens safe.

I hate foxes. I hate that they were introduced and that they are forced to eat our animals to exist. That is the mad part.

I knew something bad was going to happen - I was awake all night after one of "those" dreams - the dreams I only ever have when something goes wrong for someone I love. When I rang mum in NZ to tell her - she also had had her "feeling" that she gets like I get dreams. We both decided to try and look on the bright side and be thankful our family was safe and healthy and that the badness had been for the chicken and not for one of us.

And I am. I am thankful that my family that I love more than life itself are tonight, happy, warm and safe.

About Me

Amy
I am 30 years old, am a microbiologist with a PhD and love looking after my little farm. I compete in dressage and showjumping with my horses. I have a passion for shopping and a weakness for pretty clothes, shoes and handbags. My husband and I have a gorgeous toddler called Elka and a little bub named Bronte. I am a mother who works and has a career - just don't call me a "working mother". I don't do inside hobbies and craft and have only successfully sewn two things in my life that weren't ripped horserugs. The scientist in me makes me a little cynical and I am more likely to tell you about my life and events then give you a pretty polaroid style picture and an inspiring quote. Not for everyone but I have a bad memory and blogging is my way of recording life :)
