Thanks to mamamia for sharing these images from South African Marie Claire on body image. Of course the magazine completely ruined its good by using a model photoshopped to hell on the cover and had bikini diets and liposuction as topics *rolling eyes*

But some of the ads included inside were pretty good.

An apt message. We do need to be kind to ourselves.

Love this post Amy! Very timely with us coming into Summer as well.

I have only just been talking to Damo about this too - mainly about my perception of myself. I look at him and see the person I love, and yet I look at myself and see flaws. I want to have a timmer belly, smaller boobs, smaller thighs, and so on. And yet I've been at the gym for the past 10wks and have toned up considerably to the point where my hairdresser asked where half my bum had gone! LOL. I'm fitting into my clothes better - even shorts that I wore before having kids, so even though I'm not 'perfect' in my own eyes, perhaps I should stop worrying? Who else am I needing to look good for apart from my hubby? So long as I feel happy, shouldn't that be enough? I mean, yes, I could probably get back down to a size 10, but the food that I would have to cut out and the additional exercise that I would have to pick up would severely affect my personal life and I don't think I'd be as happy as I am now.

Definitely food for thought. Hopefully I can sort it all out before Ashleigh & Liam get older so I don't pass my self image worries on to them!

Wow. I love this. It's so unbelievably true.

About Me

My Photo
Amy
I am 30 years old, am a microbiologist with a PhD and love looking after my little farm. I compete in dressage and showjumping with my horses. I have a passion for shopping and a weakness for pretty clothes, shoes and handbags. My husband and I have a gorgeous toddler called Elka and a little bub named Bronte. I am a mother who works and has a career - just don't call me a "working mother". I don't do inside hobbies and craft and have only successfully sewn two things in my life that weren't ripped horserugs. The scientist in me makes me a little cynical and I am more likely to tell you about my life and events then give you a pretty polaroid style picture and an inspiring quote. Not for everyone but I have a bad memory and blogging is my way of recording life :)
