Extension Progress - Frame and Roof Trusses

Despite the rain, we have had some good progress on the house this week. The builders decided to hire a 20 tonne crane to get up the roof trusses as some of them, particularly the scissors trusses across the deck, are pretty hefty. That was impressive to watch as the crane went up 60 metres in the air - Elka loved it. I loved watching the workers grab onto the chain and "float" down to the ground to grab the next truss - neat.

So we have a completed house frame and the roof trusses are up. There is work to be done on completing the roof frame and then joining the old and new roof together. The roof is being measured this week for the colourbond tin and we are picking out our gutter shape and colours etc (we are replacing the old gutters on the orginal house so we aren't restricted to matching which is nice).

The back of the house - our ensuite/walk-in robe etc. The dark timber poles are where the roof will reach with our wrap around verandahs and infront of Elka's existing window is the old patio that is being replaced.


This is the gap for large window in our new Master bedroom - I love the outlook, our bed is most probably going against the back wall so we can look out at this view which is stunning when the mist sits above the water as the sun rises early in the morning.



The pitched roof of the deck - I love how it frames the view - all of that scaffolding timber/posts won't be there besides just two low posts for the deck railing, which is the rows of metal cable with a timber rail along the top.


The front of the house - the front part that has no internal frame is the double car port and then the study and into the new living room. The dark timber posts are again the wrap around verandahs that are going in. This front garden will become like a courtyard garden as parallel to the extension on the right end of the existing house is our long 4 bay shed.


To top it off - I got 70m3 of free clean fill delivered this week to build up the entrance to the carport and for landscaping the slope on the other side of the extension. I had to pay some money towards the cost of the dumptrucks but it was a pretty good deal. It will come in handy having it so early as we might get the bob cat that the builder is using in a few weeks to do the work so we save money since he is already on site.

Liam would have been in heaven as well! Talk about a treat for Elka. Mind you, Liam would be loving all of the trucks and everything else coming in there.

Loving seeing everything come together Amy - its really coming together. :)

Oh yes, I agree with the others. Jem would love to be there and watch the trucks.

Looks like things are coming along nicely. Can't wait to see the finished product!
